2 Chronicles 24:1-25:28; Romans 12:1-21; Psalm 22:19-31; Proverbs 20:8-10
Community is essential for spiritual maturity. In 2 Chronicles 24, we see the role that relationships played in Joash being able to rule wisely. “Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the years of Jehoiada the priest.” Then when Jehoiada died there was a massive spiritual vacuum in his life. He soon found himself worshiping idols and ignoring the prophets. Without someone to encourage and shepherd him, he drifted away from God, eventually killing Jehoiada’s son.
We also see in Romans 12 the value of community. Paul describes the church as a body where we all have a part to play. We can only all grow together in maturity when we all fulfill our rule. Therefore, we need to be continually connected to the body and seeking to serve others. Whether your part is to prophesy, have faith, teach, encourage, serve, give, lead, or another gift, you are needed. We need each other in order to be the men and women God wants to use to transform the world.
Father God, thank you for the gift of Christ-centered relationships and the church. Help me to continually recognize my need for these relationships and prioritize them with my time. Help me to be an encouragement to others and put myself in positions to be encouraged as well. Amen.
Question of the day: How can you more intentionally prioritize Christ-centered relationships? If you are not in a connection group, consider registering next month.
