Joshua 12:7-15:19

One universal human longing is the desire for home—a place to rest, to feel loved, and be known. The Israelites had spent 400 years in Egypt, then 40 years of wandering, and only now are beginning to find their home. They have made it into the Promised Land and tribe by tribe are allotted their residences. The cities and areas mentioned may seem unfamiliar to us, but they represent home. Yet even in the Promised Land, their ultimate home had not been found. These homes were still filled with conflict, broken hearts, and shattered relationships.

We may feel that same way today. We may have a physical address that is our house, but it is not our ultimate home. Our final, eternal home will come upon Christ's return. He will make a new earth, and we will dwell there forever. In that place, at that time, we will have perfect homes, filled with perfect/glorified people, and perfect relationships. This is the home we should long for and the home we should seek to reflect in our temporary residences here on earth.

Father God, thank you for the home that Jesus is preparing for me. Help me to live in a way that reflects my hope in Christ's return and eternity. Help me to remember things of you more than things of this world. Amen.

How would prioritizing your eternal home over your temporary, earthly home change your behavior, thoughts, and emotions?
