Numbers 34:1-36:13
We have made it to the end of the book of Numbers which places Israel right on the edge of the Promised Land. They are not yet in the land, but God is already telling them how they should divide it. These commands regarding the future prove that Israel will not only enter the land, but it will be theirs. God is prophesying what will happen; therefore, Israel should believe it. Much of Scripture includes words of prophecy like this. As we look to these fulfilled prophecies, it should give us greater confidence regarding everything that is not yet fulfilled. We have been told our Promised Land (the New Earth) will be our home, but like Israel at the end of Numbers, we are still waiting for it.
We are on the edge of the fulfillment of the promise like the Israelites, but we can trust God regarding our home because he will be faithful to bring it to pass. We are not in our home yet, but we should live now with confidence of where we will spend eternity. This confident hope should propel us to walk with joy, assurance, and peace because God will bring it to fruition. God brought the Israelites into their earthly home and he will also bring us into our new earthly home in the future.
Father God, thank you that you are faithful to your promises. Thank you for our future home where we will spend forever with you. Help me to live now in light of that reality and to live with the peace, joy, and security that knowledge brings. Amen.
How would greater confidence in your future home change the way you live today?
