Ruth 4:13-22; 1 Chronicles 2:9-55, 4:1-23; 1 Samuel 1:1-8
Have you ever attended a successful surprise birthday party? One where the person walks in, hears surprise, and stands with their mouth agape at all the people surrounding them? The end of the book of Ruth has that kind of surprise. What initially seemed like a story about one Israelite family is a story that includes all of Israel and, ultimately, the whole world with the final word of the book "David." David is a signpost to the Messiah and thus, to Jesus.
This is the same thing that happens in all beautiful stories. Everything truly beautiful points to God, every act of grace points to the cross, every truth flows from God, and all of creation directs us to him. If we wrote a story of our lives, much like the book of Ruth, how often would it directly point to God? I would encourage you today to point your life, your words, your thoughts, and your emotions towards God, rather than the things of this world or ourselves.
Father God, help me to live directed to you. May my life point to you and may I point others to you as well. May I glorify you today with my actions, words, emotions, and thoughts. May you receive all the praise and glory. Amen.
How is your life story telling the larger story of God's work of redemption?
