Deuteronomy 33:1-34:12; Joshua 1:1-2:24

There are so many changes that happen throughout our lives. We move from dependent kids, to potentially relied upon parents, to once again needing the assistance of others as we age. There is very little that is stable in life except for the presence and character of God. In our reading today, there is a massive change in the leadership of Israel. They are going to transition from Moses to Joshua as their leader. A tried-and-true leader who brought them out of Egypt to a new, untested leader. What will happen? Yet behind the scenes of this earthly transition is the stability of God.

Joshua and the Israelites are reminded that the same God who brought them out of Egypt, provided for them in the wilderness, and delivered them from enemies, is still in charge. They, like us, needed to see when everything seems to change, nothing really has. Life is going to throw curveballs at us, but God is always our rock upon whom we can rely, because the foundation he provides will never break.

Father God, thank you that you never change. Thank you that you are always with me and I can rely upon you through all of life. Help me to seek you, trust you, and walk with you through all the changing circumstances of life. Increase my faith in you and give me eyes to see how you are at work in my life today. Amen.

How have you seen God remain steady through the changes you have faced in life?
