Genesis 11:1-26; 1 Chronicles 1:24-27; Genesis 11:27-31, 12:1-14:24

God's plan seems to be consistently thwarted throughout the Bible. God choose to work through Adam and Eve and they rebelled. God worked through Noah and his lineage, but their righteousness was short-lived. Today we see God choose to work through Abram who would become the father of a great nation. He promised an old childless man that through his line blessing would come to the entire world. Abram gives up the known to embrace the unknowns into which God would lead him. Abram was willing to do so in obedience to God. Abram seems like such a promising figure, maybe even the one who would destroy the serpent, and yet like all of us, he is deeply sinful. Shortly after God's promises he flees to Egypt and lies about the identity of his wife. Abram seems to rely on the tactics of the world rather than faith in God and his promises.

We can do the same—we read and embrace the promises of God and his faithfulness; then we find ourselves doubting what he has said and relying upon our own resources. Like Abram, we too quickly forget God is faithful and we should trust him. So let us, in the midst of our faithlessness, run to the only one─Jesus, who is perfectly faithful, and find the life in which he wants us to walk.

Father God, help me to walk by faith and not by what I see from my limited perspective. Amen.

In what area of your life do you need to deepen your trust in God?
