Psalm 119

If you have read the Bible everyday so far this year, congratulations, and, even if you have not, good work reading today! Psalm 119 provides a great summary of what you have been reading. God's Scriptures are described in this psalm as: the law of the Lord, his statutes, precepts, decrees, commands, his word, promise, and word of truth. In the Bible we encounter several different genres, characters, and aspects to God's revelation, and through it all we receive truth which leads us to Christ. This lengthy chapter is meant to give us a greater understanding of what we encounter in the Scriptures, but also create in us a desire to hunger and feed upon them.

We should delight in spending time reading the Bible, because through it we will be blessed. Through knowing and obeying, we can experience true freedom. The more we understand of God's revelation, the more we can see the true beauty found in God. As we encounter God's love in the Scriptures, it gives us a sense of security and confidence knowing in God we have all we need. There may be some days where reading the Bible feels like a chore, but hopefully, we are daily growing in an excitement and delight to meet with God through his Scriptures.

Father God, thank you for how you have revealed yourself and your will in the Bible. Give me a hunger to meet with you, to know you, and to follow you. Amen.

Question: How can you create a greater hunger for God and his Scriptures?
