Exodus 10:1-12:51
God can work in the darkest of circumstances for the good of his people and for his glory. While Moses is dialoguing with stubborn Pharaoh, we are told God is hardening his heart so, "I may perform these signs among them that you may tell your children...and that you may know that I am the Lord" (Exodus 10:1-2). God has worked in a way that may confuse us but for the express purpose that the world might know him more clearly. Pharaoh's hard heart led to God revealing his power through the plagues and specifically, revealing his pattern of salvation through the Passover.
This feast, which was given as a continual act of remembrance, was a picture of the saving power of sacrificial blood. It was a foretaste of Jesus' blood and a powerful reminder that salvation is available for all who respond to God. This revelation was only available because of the stubbornness of Pharaoh. If Pharaoh had responded to the first request of Moses, then Egypt would not have known God's power and Israel would not have received the Passover as a pointer to the Messiah. In the same way, we can trust that when God allows or brings difficulty into our lives, he is doing it for reasons that are for his glory and our good, even when we cannot immediately see those things.
Father God, thank you that you are always about your glory and my good. Help me to trust you during difficulty and use what you bring into my life to help me become more like your son Jesus. Amen.
When have you seen God allow or bring difficulty into your life in a way that helped you to mature as his follower?
