Genesis 40:1-23, 35:28-29, 41:1-57

Have you ever had the experience where you were praying but felt like you were simply talking to a wall? You were talking, but God seemed silent? We may feel like God is silent, distant, and potentially even uninterested in our lives. However, the important truth we need to embrace is that God has spoken and is speaking in a number of ways, if we would only listen. He communicates through creation, through the Spirit, through Jesus, through Scripture, through angels, and even through donkeys, and other means. He communicates to people who worship him as God and to those who do not acknowledge him. In today's reading we see he can speak through dreams and to people who fail to worship him.

God speaking through dreams and to those who are outside of his family may seem strange to us, but God consistently speaks in this way throughout the Bible. God speaks through so many ways, but often people, including us, do not hear as well as they should. We go about our days with eyes fixed on our to do list without even a stray thought about what God might be doing around us. We need to learn to turn our eyes from ourselves and put them on God. This will mean a correction in our thoughts, our desires, and our affections which draw our attention to what is of true significance considering eternity. So, let us seek to be open to how God might be speaking to us today.

Father God, may my life be lived for your glory and with eyes attentive to what you are doing in and around me. Amen.

How can you train your ears to better hear from God?
