Joshua 18:1-19:48

Unless you are a geography buff, you may find today's reading a tad tedious. The seven tribes who had not yet received their territories finally have their homes. What is interesting is they had to be commanded to go take their land! It seems that though Manassah, Reuben, Gad, Judah and Ephraim had already received their land, the remaining seven tribes were just sitting around, waiting for who knows what. Donald Madvig says, "Apparently the remaining tribes had grown complacent. They were satisfied with nomadic life...and were not eager to be involved in the warfare required to claim their own territory."

There are times in life when we need to wait, and there are times in life when we need to act. A crucial skill of wisdom is knowing when it is time to do which. Two key questions to ask are: 1) Is God clearly commanding me to do something, so waiting would be disobedience? 2) Am I trying to do something that only God can deliver? Let us act on the things God has called us to do and wait patiently for the things which God is going to bring.

Father God, give me wisdom to know when to act and when to wait. Help me to wait on your promises and act on your commands. Help me to faithfully follow you today. Amen.

What is an area of your life that you need to act on and what is an area of your life that you need to wait with greater patience?
