Deuteronomy 13:1-16:17

Discernment is a skill that is necessary for the people of God. We need to be able to think through all areas of life and determine God's leading. Our reading today begins with discernment around worship. God's people are called to worship him alone and refuse to participate in idolatry. We need to be crystal clear about who God is, what he has done, and how to rightly respond to him. Moses points out the need for Israel to also have discernment in what they ate, how they used their money, and even how they celebrated. On the surface these seem like the most disconnected issues ever, but that’s the point.

These diverse issues show that God's truth and his principles for living speak to all areas of our lives. God cares about our work, free time, relationships, money, and everything else. So, we need to start asking in every area of life, God how do you want me to live and how can I start doing that today?

Father God, thank you for speaking to all areas of my life. Help me to do all things for you and your glory. Give me greater wisdom through your Spirit so I can honor you better. Amen.

In what area of life do you need to more intentionally glorify God?
