Numbers 2:1-3:51

It is quickly clear why the book of Numbers is titled as such. It is called Numbers because it deals with lots of numbers. It is easy to get overwhelmed by numbers. When we hear that the population of the world is nearly eight billion or the population of the United States is over three hundred million, those are staggering numbers in which we can get lost. Yet behind the numbers are actual people. There are Bobs, Juans, Lindas, and Yaos, and God cares about every one of them.

We believe in a God who cares about every part of his creation and especially every human. We may find it hard to love some people, but that is not true for God. He loves everyone and desires everyone to come to faith in him. His love becomes the impetus for our love, and the love we experience should be poured out into the lives of others. As we read more and more numbers in Numbers, let us remember behind the numbers are people who Christ died to save.

Father God, thank you for your staggering love. Thank you that Jesus died for the whole world including me. Help me to love others in the way you love me. Amen.

How would it change you if you always remembered that behind numbers, databases, and customer lists, were people that Christ died to save?
