2 Chronicles 17:1-18:34; Romans 9:25-10:13; Psalm 20:1-9; Proverbs 20:2-3
Finish well. We continually see this call throughout the Bible that we need to persevere to the end. We saw this warning in the life of Asa yesterday and now in his son, Jehoshaphat. Notice 17:3 which says, “In his early years he walked in the ways his father David had followed.” The phrase “in his early years” is a warning sign that not all must have been well in his later years and then we learn of his alliance with the wicked king Ahab. It is far easier to begin well than to end the same way. Romans 9-10 is then scattered with similar warnings. The nation of Israel continuously turned away from God and though having profound moments of repentance, they always seemed to drift away. The consequence would be God’s wrath, while the reward for those who have faith would be adoption into God’s family and being declared righteous.
As we consider the difficulty of prioritizing and walking with God, we should understand what is at stake. To live for something else is to place ourselves in opposition to God, while living for him is to live considering our design and purpose. So let us keep on keeping on─putting Christ at the very center of our lives.
Father God, help me to live for you and your glory. Help me to seek you continually and make you the number one priority of my life. Help me to persevere in making you lord over every aspect of my life. Amen.
Question of the day: How can you implement present habits to help you remain faithful to Christ in the future?
