2 Chronicles 4:1-6:11; Romans 7:1-13; Psalm 17:1-15; Proverbs 19:22-23

God’s desire has always been to dwell with his people. He made a garden to walk with Adam & Eve, he showed his presence through fire and cloud during the Exodus, and in 2 Chronicles 6 he dwells amongst his people in the temple. When the temple is completed, he physically reveals his presence in the form of the cloud in the same way he did during the Exodus. We see this same presence physically manifest when the Spirit descends in Acts as fire (one of the ways God showed his presence during the Exodus) upon the apostles and believers. God’s desire is still to dwell with his creation and he continued to do so through his Spirit, and will completely do so on the New Earth. What kept the world from experiencing this is the same thing that kicked Adam and Eve out of God’s presence in the garden, sin. Romans 7 points out that the only way to have a relationship with God is through the work of Jesus. Obedience to the law and our attempts at morality cannot achieve for us what Christ accomplished on the cross. Therefore, we need to rest in God’s presence, walk in Christ’s forgiveness, and live empowered by the Spirit.

God, my Father, thank You for your Spirit. Thank you that through him I always have your presence with me. Help me to live in light of the fact that you are always with me, will never leave me, and have empowered me to do your will. Amen.

Question: How can you continually remember and live in light of God’s presence?
