1 Kings 9:1-10:29; Acts 8:14-40; Psalm 130:1-8; Proverbs 17:2-3
God's heart is for all people, from all nations to come and worship him. We can see that happening both in the Old and New Testaments today.
In 1 Kings 9, we have the Queen of Sheba who has come from Africa to see if Solomon is truly as wise as the rumors. Before she leaves, we are told that she says, "Praise be to the Lord your God." She has moved from one who is curious about Solomon and wisdom to one who recognizes her need to praise God. Ethiopia still looks to this queen as part of their religious heritage.
Similarly, in Acts 8 we see the interaction between Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch. The eunuch is either a convert to Judaism or at least spiritually interested in the Jewish God but through encountering Philip is told about Jesus. He ends up placing his faith in Christ and being baptized as evidence of his faith. God's desire was never for only one nation to worship him but always for all people, at all times, from all nations to come and worship. Since this is God’s heart this should be our heart as well.
As God gives us opportunities, we should seek to share the gospel with people like us and with those who look very different from us. It is amazing that by living in America, God has brought to us people from nearly all ethnicities and nations, that we can share Christ with. So let us obey God’s calling to make disciples of all nations and as we do this, we will play a part in fulfilling the vision of eternity as described in Revelation 7:9.
God, my Father, thank you that you desire all people to come to faith in your Son. Help me to never judge people on externals but instead have love for all people. Help me to participate in the great commission by making Jesus known to the ends of the world. Amen.
Question of the day: Who can you share the gospel with who is not like you?
