2 Samuel 20:14-21:22; Acts 1:1-26; Psalm 121:1-8;Proverbs 16:18

We have moved today from the gospel narratives to the book of Acts. This book gets its title because it chronicles the acts of the apostles. It is part two of the book of Luke.

Acts will describe for us the massive expansion of the Church during the first decades after Jesus' resurrection. God will take the group of 120 people in chapter one and ultimately start a movement of his Spirit that will transform the world. It is through the obedience of this first generation of believers that the gospel ultimately came to be heard by each of us. They responded to the call in 1:8 to go into all the world and be witnesses. A witness is someone who makes known what they have seen and heard.

This is the same call that is on each of our lives. We are to testify to the world around us concerning what God has done in our lives and through the person of Jesus. It is through our witness that we can see others be transformed and bring glory to God.

Question of the day: How can you function as a witness for Jesus today?

God, my Father, thank you for what you have done through Jesus. Thank you for my salvation which you have given through Christ, and thank you for the Spirit who allows me to live this out. Help me today to be your witness and make you known to the world around me. Amen.
