1 Kings 20:1-21:29; Acts 12:24-13:15; Psalm 137:1-9; Proverbs 17:16
It is never too late. God's grace ensures that, if we are alive, we can still turn to him in repentance and find forgiveness.
Further, no matter the longstanding sinful patterns in our lives, we can change. Our past does not ensure our future.
After chapters about the wickedness of Ahab comes a shocking transformation. After involving himself in murder, theft, and idolatry, Ahab humbles himself before God as evidenced by the putting on of sackcloth, fasting, and meekness. God then responds to his humility by withholding judgment until his life is over.
God can soften even the hardest of hearts and bring those far from him into relationship with him. Therefore, we should surrender all areas of our lives to him knowing he can change us. We should never give up sharing the gospel with those we may be tempted to abandon. God is a God of grace, love, and power, who desires all to come to repentance.
God, my Father, thank you that you can transform the most hardened of people. Thank you that you gave me life, forgiveness, and your Spirit. Thank you that, through your power, I can overcome all temptation and sin, and experience abundant life. Help me to proclaim this message of hope to others as well. Amen.
Question of the day: Who is someone in your life you may have given up on that God may be calling you to encourage or to share the gospel?
