2 Kings 15:1-16:20; Acts 19:13-41; Psalm 147:1-20; Proverbs 18:4-5

In Acts 19:13-41 we come across three powers. The first is the power of the demonic. A group of Jewish religious leaders had a ministry of exorcisms, but when they began to use the name of Jesus to perform these, they were beaten up by a demon possessed man. Their fake Christianity was exposed by a demon.

A second power is that of money. Demetrius, a silversmith, led a massive riot out of fear that the spread of Christianity would lead to a decrease in his income. Money motivated him to harden his heart against the gospel because he had no room for a god other than money.

Yet, sandwiched between these two stories, we have verses 17-20. Here we see the third and ultimate power which is Jesus. Jesus is greater than everything. When he encounters demons, they flee. When he encounters wealth, we see his surpassing greatness over the things of this world.

We will encounter various things in our lives which seem to hold power, but we always need to remember that Jesus is greater than everything. Nothing we will ever meet or any situation we will encounter is greater than Him So as Psalm 147 directs us, let us worship and submit to him in all things.

God, my Father, thank you for your power and that of the Son and the Spirit. Help me to remember your superiority over all things. Thank you that you are with me; therefore, I have nothing to fear. Amen.

Question of the day: What circumstances or people seem to be more powerful than Jesus? How can you remember Jesus' superiority to these things?
