1 Kings 8:1-66; Proverbs 17:1; Psalm 129:1-8; Proverbs 16:31-33

God’s desire has always been to dwell with his people. He walked with Adam and Eve in the garden, he dwelt with his people in the tabernacle, and now as we read in 1 Kings 8, he does so in the temple. When Solomon brought the ark into the temple God’s glory resided in the temple in the form of a cloud. God once again was dwelling with his people. Now through Christ, we experience God’s even greater dwelling with us, through the person of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit resides within his people and therefore we don’t have to go to a particular location to be with God but instead, he goes with us everywhere.

As we consider the reality of God living with us, we see in the life of Stephen two ways this should transform us. The first is we should proclaim Christ at all times and in all places. In Stephen’s lengthy sermon that started a few days ago, he takes his listeners through the Old Testament and ends with Jesus. As we engage in conversations with people we should also be seeking to get to Christ, the only hope and savior for the world. Second, we should be filled with boldness and courage. Stephen’s speech cost him his life, yet we may find ourselves afraid to speak simply because we are worried about awkwardness or rocking the boat. Instead, we should remember that God is with us and God has saved us, so how can we not but share about Christ.

Father God, thank you that you are with me through your Spirit. Help me to live guided and empowered by him to live out the calling you have placed on my life. Help me to glorify you in all I do. Amen.

Question: How should the reality of God being with you impact the way you live and speak today?
