Matthew 24:1-28
What is going to happen? How many times in life have you wished you knew the future? Though we are not given the details of our tomorrow, Jesus does lay out for his disciples a general map of what was to come for them and some of what is still to come for us. As the disciples look around the magnificence of the temple mount, they are stunned that Jesus says it will soon be destroyed. He describes the chaos that would envelope them prior to the destruction of the temple, which becomes a prelude to the ultimate chaos that will come before Christ’s return. Even amid the wars, deception, violence, and natural disasters, there is still hope. Jesus highlights that “he who stands firm to the end will be saved” (v. 13).
Though we are not given the exact timing of Jesus’ return, the absolute certainty of it should give us peace. It is easy to become overwhelmed by the brokenness of our world, but, while acknowledging and praying for it, Jesus challenges us to look beyond it to the salvation we have in him. As believers we are in the unique space of being able to hold both the horrors and beauty of the world together. Further, we can mourn sin and tragedies while rejoicing in Christ and his work. As we reflect on all that has occurred and is still to come in this passage, we must make sure we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus through it all.
Father God, thank you that you bring hope in all situations. Help me to live considering Christ’s. Amen.
How should Christ’s return impact the way we view the chaos in our world?

The chaos we are in is so temporary when compared to the time of waiting for Jesus to return. Not to belittle this chaos, for me and others, it's tough to live through and navigate. But for Him, it's all in his timing and already planned - predestined. How calm was He through everything he endured in waiting for his death and resurrection? Though we know that our chaos has an ultimate end, can we take comfort in knowing that it is temporary? I find peace in knowing that one day it will end and what I stress about each day really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Let's focus on the big picture, rejoining our Father. Everything else we endure is for us to attempt to be our best selves for Him.
