Mark 3:7-30
Who is Jesus? That is the most important question we need to answer. This is so critical that it has eternal ramifications. Jesus says, “All the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of eternal sin.” Whatever this sin is, forgiveness is impossible. So what is it? When Jesus makes this claim, he is discussing where the credit for his miracles should go. The religious leaders are claiming that his miracles are done by the power of Satan, while Jesus wants them to understand he is sent by God and is working through the power of the Holy Spirit. If someone believes Jesus is a pawn of Satan, then there is no forgiveness for them because they are not coming to Jesus as Lord and Savior. Their failure to understand who Jesus is makes forgiveness impossible for them.
This is exactly the same for people today. Forgiveness is only available in Jesus Christ, so if someone believes that Jesus is Satanic, a myth, simply a good person, or anything other than the Savior of the world, then they are outside of forgiveness. In contrast, no matter what someone has done—murder, rape, embezzlement, lying, etc.— there is always forgiveness in Jesus. We simply must turn to him and ask for forgiveness, and he will grant it. So let us know who Jesus is, trust him for our salvation, and walk in the forgiveness he makes available to us.
Father God, thank you for your forgiveness. Help me to walk in your grace and share it with others. Amen.
What is keeping your friends and family from receiving the forgiveness Jesus offers? If you don’t know, ask them.
