Matthew 25:1-30

A wedding can be one of the most stressful events in life. When I do premarital counseling, we often spend time discussing how stressed the couple is because of the planning. Think of all the things that go into a wedding: clothing, food, music, location, a date, vows, and an absurd number of other details. That is a lot of stuff. In the same way, Jesus says we need to prepare and plan for his return. His return is compared to a wedding. Those who are prepared for this wedding are wise, while those who do not are fools.

Since Jesus’ return will bring the end of history, as we know it, and the judgment of all humanity, it should continually be on our minds. So, we need to ask ourselves, are we ready? The first step to being ready is through acknowledging Christ as our Lord and Savior. Then, we need to live in a way that honors and is obedient to the commands of God. We are to be faithful servants who use the gifts of our master to glorify him. The wedding is coming whether we are ready or not, and a failure to prepare is foolishness. So let us be ready for the groom to arrive.

Father God, help me to walk in wisdom by living ready for Christ’s return. Help me to live for you and please you in all I do. Amen.

How can you more decisively prepare for Jesus’ return and the wedding to come?
