Who sits on the throne of your life? Who rules your emotions, decisions, and actions? Scripture tells us there is only one king and that is Jesus. At Jesus’ birth, the wise men sought the one born king of the Jews. As he preached, he proclaimed the message of the kingdom of heaven, which points to the fact he is king over it. He taught parables where he was put in the place of the king but finally, at the triumphal entry, he presented himself definitively to the nation of Israel as king. Only the gospel of John mentions anyone acknowledging Jesus as king prior to this entry, and it only being a rare response.
Yet Jesus' dramatic entry just days before Passover was the moment all confusion was swept away and his identity was revealed. He was king and, as king over Israel and the world, all were to submit before him. This same attitude should be ours today. With Christ as our king, we are to ensure all areas of our life are placed before him in complete and total surrender. Our citizenship is ultimately in his kingdom, our actions are ultimately to be done in his service, and all glory is due to him.
Father God, may I surrender my life before you, your Son, and Spirit. Help me to do all things for your glory and fame. Amen.
Do you consistently recognize Christ as your king? If not, how should this understanding of who Jesus is affect your relationship with him?
