Zechariah 1:1-21; Revelation 12:1-17; Psalm 140:1-13; Proverbs 30:17

Those who oppose God in Scripture and the world can often seem intimidating. We may often feel like there is nothing we can do to stand against the wickedness and cultural currents of the world, but with God, we can always overcome.

The dragon of Revelation 12 is one of the most impressive figures in the Bible. He is enormous and has seven heads, ten horns, and seven crowns. He can sweep a third of the stars in the sky and fling them down to earth. Who can stand against something this imposing? Psalm 140 describes evil men with tongues like a serpent and poison on their lips. They hide snares, nets, and traps trying to destroy others. Who can stand against people like this? It may not be a dragon or evil people that we find opposed to us, but we all face obstacles that seem overwhelming in life. As we come against these people, we need to always remember that God is greater.

In Revelation 12, though the dragon is imposing, he can do nothing against God’s people. His strength is simply a shadow compared to what God can do. Further, victory is found in Christ. Notice those in heaven proclaiming, “They overcame him by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony.” Victory comes not through fighting but through faith. Clinging to Christ and trusting in his sacrifice is what ultimately allows us to have eternal life and overcome sin, death, the dragon, and everything else that comes against us.

Father God, thank you that you are greater than anything that can come against me. Help me to always walk by faith in you. Amen.

Question: What opposition are you currently facing and how can you rely on Christ to help you overcome?
