Leviticus 9:1-11:47

Ready, set, go. These instructions are given at the beginning of a race, but occasionally, you see a runner who barely gets off the starting blocks. It may be due to a pulled muscle, a lack of concentration, or broken blocks, but though they were in the race, they never got going. The ministry of the priesthood begins in this way. In Leviticus 9 the priests begin their work and already in chapter ten we have the first two priests struck down because they failed to heed the commands. God had clearly given them instructions, but they chose their own way instead and it led to death. This is the story of Adam and Eve on repeat. God gives clear instructions and disobedience leads to disastrous consequences.

Obedience is critical. We must hear what God has said and run the race of life in obedience to what we have been told, knowing that shortcuts never work out. If we do not get off the blocks, then we will miss out on the abundant life Christ has for us. So let us run the race of life in obedience to the commands of our Savior.

Father God, thank you for your instructions. Help me to obey what you have said and trust your Spirit's wisdom over my own feelings. Help me to walk with you in the power of your Spirit and seek to follow the ways of Jesus. Amen.

What would need to happen for you to take obeying God more seriously?
