Job 19:1-21:34

In suffering there is always an opportunity to find hope. Yesterday we saw what God was actively doing in heaven brought hope to Job (Jesus' current intercession). Today we see what God will do in the future brings hope. We can look beyond our present circumstances to the reality of eternity to find hope. Embracing this mindset is to choose the hope of eternity over the grumbling and complaining of today. Job says, "I know that my redeemer lives and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God" (Job 19:26). This does not reduce the pain or the suffering that Job is walking through, but it does change his hope.

Remembering our salvation and knowing we will be with God for eternity gives us the hope we so desperately need. So, let us take our eyes off our momentary troubles and put them on the eternal glory that awaits. God gives us fuel for hope from what he is doing today and his work in the future, so let us always walk in hope.

Father God, thank you for the hope that you give me. Thank you that my hope is sure, because you are a sure, dependable, faithful God. Help me to focus on hope rather than pain and glory rather than suffering. Amen.

How would gaining an eternal mindset change how you endure suffering?
