Exodus 29:1-31:18

Consecration has the idea of devoting something to God. It is to take an item (tabernacle articles) or a person (priests) and set it apart to be used by God in a special way. If this sounds like the same idea as holiness─it is. The same Hebrew word can be translated either to consecrate or to declare something holy. Since the priests were the only ones allowed to offer sacrifices in the tabernacle, they had to be consecrated for this purpose. In the new covenant God has expanded the idea of consecration to include all his people. All believers are now priests; therefore, consecrated for the purpose of worshiping God and leading others to him. The priests were committed to God through a ceremony which involved a ram’s blood being placed on their ears, fingers, and toes.

We are also consecrated through blood, but through the application of Christ's blood to our lives. Through the sacrifice of Jesus, we are all washed clean, forgiven, and consecrated for service. Our lives are not our own to be used how we want, but we have been set aside as priests to live for God's glory and for his kingdom purposes. Even when we fall short, this does not remove what God has done in our lives and our identity in him. We are always priests and consecrated to God. It is only a question of whether we are living according to this calling.

Father God, thank you that I am devoted to you and your purposes. Help me to pursue your glory, to walk in the Spirit, and commit myself to you. Amen.

How would living as consecrated to God impact your life?
