Hosea 9:1-14:9

Nothing reveals the condition of your heart more than in what you delight and rejoice. Today's reading out of Hosea is like a cardiologist examining the heart of the Israelites. They delight in money, idols, politicians, and prosperity, but they do not rejoice in God. They look everywhere for fulfillment except to the One who created them and sustained them from generation to generation. The One who is truly beautiful, satisfying, and loving was ignored by them as they pursued other frivolous objects of contentment.

You may view their propensity to delight in objects as foolish, which it was, but we are all tempted to delight in things other than God. As proven in the lives of the Israelites, though God is the only one who is worthy of our delight. Therefore, we need to embrace God and find our highest form of love and contentment in him. We need to recognize his beauty as more enticing than anything the world offers, acknowledging that his gifts and his love are more than sufficient.

Father God, you are greater than everything the Earth has to offer, and you are more than enough to satisfy my every need. Help me to never look to anything other than you to satisfy me. Help me to delight in you as my Lord and King. Amen.

How can you increase your delight in God?
