Daniel 9:1-11:1; 1 John 2:18-3:6; Psalm 121:1-8; Proverbs 28:27-28

The biggest division in the world is between the creator and his creation. There is an infinite divide between our eternal God and that which his hands have made. We must understand who God is and who we are.

Daniel acknowledges God as great, awesome, keeper of his covenants, righteous, forgiving, and merciful. In contrast, he sees Judah as sinful, wicked, rebellious, and failing to pay attention to God’s truth. Tim Keller said many times that God is more gracious than we can imagine, and we are more sinful than we want to admit. When we are able in humility to acknowledge our sinfulness, it should drive us to the only one who can deal with it, God. He is the only one who can offer us forgiveness, grant us eternal life, and admit us into his presence. This is the exact thing that Daniel does. He runs to God in prayer and asks him to do that which only he can do.
John also acknowledges God as the one who anoints us, gives us his truth, grants us eternal life, is righteous, and loves us. The character of God should drive us to him “so that when he (Christ) appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.”  God’s righteousness should be revealed through our righteousness, his love through our love, and his mercy through acts of mercy.
So let us meditate on who God is and allow his life, love, and righteousness to flow through us.

Father God, help me to reflect your character to a watching world. May I know you more, live for you more, and make you known. Amen.

Question: What is one aspect of God’s character that you can better reflect on today?
