Psalm 42-46

Kids love to pretend to be animals. They love to act like monkeys, cats, and dogs as they run or crawl around the house. You may think as you have grown older you no longer need to act like an animal, but Psalm 42 tells us otherwise. We are all to be like deer. Deer have a longing, a thirst, and a panting for water. We also are to have this longing in our hearts. Yet our longing should not be for fluid but for God. Like a deer that craves water, so we should crave God. We should wake up thinking about God.

As we go about our day, we should be concerned for his glory, and as we go to sleep, we should be celebrating all that he has done in and through us. Downcast feelings or circumstances may try to draw our attention away from him, but we need to return them back to him through hope and praise. Today you may be dressing up in red, white, and blue, but every day we need to dress up like a deer.

Father God, I need you. Help me to always be desperate for you and seek you more and more. Amen.

How can you become more like a deer in cultivating a hunger/thirst for God?
