Ephesians 3:1-21
Are you into mysteries? Do you like a good whodunit where the culprit is only revealed at the end? Do you enjoy being held in suspense wondering what is going to happen? Paul reveals in Ephesians 3 that through Christ a great mystery has been revealed.
Paul proclaims the mystery to be the unification of all ethnicities under Christ. There is no division between Jews and Gentiles; rather through faith everyone can become part of God’s family. This mystery compelled Paul to spend his life dedicated to the mission of being a disciple who made disciples. We have seen that in narrative form in Acts and now see Paul’s summary in this letter. He stayed committed to this mission whether it led to prison or joyful reunions with church plants. Everything which God gave him, he poured out into the life of others.
He describes this transfer in verse 2 by saying God’s “grace [that] was given to me for you.” This grace includes personal salvation, the unification of all believers into one big family, material blessings, relationships, life, etc. which is all to be used for the benefit of others. God invites us into his mystery of grace so we can be dispensers of it to others. Take an inventory of God’s grace in your life and consider how you can better use all those things to be part of the bigger mission that God has given to you, to me, and to all of us.
Father God, thank you for your grace. Help me to use all that you have given to me for your glory and to help others grow as well. Amen.
