Acts 24:1-26:32

Paul sat in prison for two years for preaching the gospel. He did nothing wrong, yet would have been in atrocious, abysmal conditions for two long years. I am sure it would have been easy for Paul to give up, question why this was happening, or doubt the goodness of God. Instead, he resolutely continued to preach the gospel, the very thing for which he was in prison. As we see in Philippians 1, Paul takes the perspective that, even in his suffering, God is doing something to spread the message of the gospel.

Without being in prison, Paul would not have been able to preach to Festus, Agrippa, or Bernice. God opened a door and, though it meant two years of hardship, Paul was happy to walk through it. We may not always be able to connect the dots between our circumstances and the spreading of the Gospel, but we can always trust that our good God is doing something amid even the most difficult of times.

Father God, thank you that you are always working all things for my good and your glory. Help me to have eyes to see and a heart that trusts. Amen.

When have you seen God use difficult circumstances to help others know him? How can you learn to trust God more during future moments of difficulty?
