GENESIS 40:1-23; GENESIS 35:28-29; GENESIS 41:1-57

Prayer can often seem like we're talking to a wall and getting nothing in response. We feel like God is silent, distant, and potentially even uninterested in our lives. The reality is that God has spoken and is speaking in a number of ways, if we would only listen. He communicates through creation, through the Spirit, through Jesus, through Scripture, through angels, and even through donkeys and other means. He communicates to people who worship him as God and to those who don't acknowledge him. In today's reading we see that he can speak through dreams and to those who fail to worship him. God speaking through dreams and to those who are outside of his family may seem strange to us, but God consistently speaks in this way throughout the Bible. God desires to make himself known to us and to the world we just need to have eyes to see and ears to hear. We can so easily go about our days with eyes fixed on our to do list without even a stray thought about what God might be doing around us. We need to learn to turn our eyes from ourselves and put them on God. This will mean a correction in our thoughts, our desires and our affections which puts our attention on what is of true significance in light of eternity. Let us seek to be open to how God might be speaking to us today.

Father God, help me to have ears to hear from you. May my life be lived for your glory and with eyes attentive to what you are doing in and around me. As you speak, help me to listen and live in a changed way. Amen.

Question: How can you train your ears to better hear from God?
