Jeremiah 37:11-38:28; Ezekiel 1:1-3:15

God makes amazing things like porcupines, giraffes, hippos, and humans. Today we are introduced to “four living creatures” that reside in heaven. Their description is bizarre and hard to fully comprehend. They are like humans but with four faces and four wings, with human hands under the wings. They have legs but their feet are like that of a calf. Their four faces are of a human, lion, ox, and eagle. Their appearance is like fire, and they move with a bizarre wheel. These four living creatures, called cherubim later in Ezekiel, are only discussed in some detail here and in Revelation. God created them in the past but only to Ezekiel and then John did he reveal them. Why would God create such creatures of which we are not even aware?

We must acknowledge God ultimately creates for his own glory. He made these “four living creatures” and countless other things of which we are not aware, because he desired to do so. We may not fully understand why God does what he does, but we need to recognize we live in an enchanted world we inhabit that is filled with God’s work, glory, and love. So let us take the time to be amazed by God’s creation─all we can see and all that we cannot.

Father God, what a wonderful creator you are. You formed all that I see, and everything that I cannot see. Help me live in awe of your power, glory and majesty. Amen.

How does considering God’s creation (that which we can and cannot see) help to expand your view of God?
