Jesus' last twenty-four hours on Earth were a long, tedious, winding road. He moves from a final Passover meal with his disciples, to a wrestling match of prayer in a garden, to his arrest and abandonment by most of his disciples, to a trial by the religious leaders, and then to a trial before Pilate and Herod. It is hard for me to fathom the level of physical and emotional exhaustion Jesus endured; yet he remained committed to his mission. As he stood before the most powerful entities in Jerusalem, he remained resolutely focused on the greater power his Heavenly Father had. Even when his eyes were clouded by tears, blood, and sweat, he could see his Father and remained resolutely focused on him.

As we endure difficulties and hardships that pale in comparison to Jesus, may we also remain focused on our Heavenly Father and experience the peace and purpose only he can bring. Our lives may seem like they are just a long, meandering journey, but God is in control over it all.

Father God, help me to stay focused on you. May I always remember that my light and momentary troubles are achieving for me an eternal glory that far outweighs all the difficulties. Amen.

How can you keep your eyes fixed on God during the distractions and hardships of life?
