2 Kings 13:1-11, 12:17-21; 2 Chronicles 24:23-27; 2 Kings 13:14-25

Elisha's ministry carried on beyond his death. We are told that a dead body touched Elisha’s bones, and it came back to life. This may seem like a strange story, but we are told again and again in Scripture that God has power over everything─including life and death. For instance, Abraham believed that God could raise Isaac from the dead which was why he was willing to sacrifice him, even though he had never witnessed such an event. Elisha and Elijah both were used by God to bring dead people back to life. Jesus raises multiple people back to life, including Lazarus from within a tomb. After Jesus' death we are told “the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus' resurrection and went into the holy city” (Matt 27:52-53).

God loves to give life. He loves to give physical life, and He loves to give spiritual life. Every time a person receives spiritual life, it is like our souls are being touched by Elisha's bones. We are all born spiritually dead, but by grace through faith in Jesus, we come alive. Let us acknowledge and celebrate all these acts of God giving life to dead people.

Father God, thank you for the gift of life. The breath I am taking now is a gift from you and my eternal life is also a gift from you. Help me to praise you for the gift of life and use my life on Earth to bring you honor and glory. Amen.

Who can you share Jesus with this week so you might possibly see God bring a spiritually dead person to life?
