1 Kings 15:16-22; 2 Chronicles 16:1-10; 1 Kings 16:1-34, 15:23-24; 2 Chronicles 16:11-17:19; 1 Kings 17:1-7

What do you rely upon in times of trouble? Where do you turn for help? Asa found himself with the army of Israel bearing down upon him and he turned not to God, but to the power of Aram. He thought that military might was needed to push back an army; instead of trusting God that he had power over everything.

Similarly, we can find ourselves trusting in things other than God for our deliverance. Like Asa we may find momentary deliverance, but what we ultimately need is secured by God alone. If we look away from God, then what was said of Asa will be said of us, “You have done a foolish thing” (2 Chronicles 16:9). So, let us choose to walk in wisdom, seek God, and rely on him alone. Everything else is walking in foolish ways, rather than the wise.

Lord, would you turn our city and our country back to you? I pray you will raise up leaders fully devoted to you who will get rid of evil and bring peace and justice to our world.

What would help you to walk in wisdom rather than foolishness?
