Isaiah 34:1-35:10; Micah 2:1-5:15

We began the book of Micah about a month ago, and today and tomorrow we will finish it. Judgment seemed imminent as Assyria lingered nearby; yet the prophets and others tried to convince the people that everything would be fine. They wanted the people to underestimate their predicament and to live blissfully unaware of the judgment that awaited. Satan has always worked in this way, trying to distract people from their sin and the judgment that awaits. If he convinces us that everything is fine, then there is no need for repentance, salvation, or God. For Judah false comfort allowed them to pursue wealth and materialism over love and justice, and I think it takes the very same forms today. We make life about our own personal comfort and are blinded to the eternal significance of things.

Sadly, if we are not aware of our sin and the salvation that is available in Christ, then we will also miss out on the paradise Christ will bring at his return. Micah 4 tells us that Christ will bring peace and we will be able to dwell with Christ as our king and our good shepherd. Though it is uncomfortable to view our sin, it is only through acknowledgment of our sin that we can we see the beautiful salvation and eternity Jesus makes available. So confess your sins and embrace the life God holds out to us.

Father God, I confess my sin to you. I acknowledge that life, peace, security, and salvation is only available in you. Thank you that Jesus came to die for my sins and rose from the dead so I can be with you forever. Amen.

How does Satan distract you from being honest about your sin and your need for Jesus?
