Ecclesiastes 7:1-11:6

None of our lives have turned out exactly how we hoped. We have dreams that have been crushed, relationships destroyed, and the consequences of sin all around us. We have all experienced injustice and unfairness, which at times can make us want to give up. Solomon wrestles with these realities in his search for meaning and purpose in Ecclesiastes. He wonders why the wicked wealthy seem to prosper, while the righteous die at a young age. He also tries to make sense of foolish people being placed in positions of power, while the righteous are in lowly places, forgotten, and ignored.

The primary thing which will help us to make sense of injustice now is perfect justice later. When Christ returns, he will deal with the sin in the world and the sin in our lives. For those who are in Christ, they will be resurrected and glorified, while those apart from Christ will be separated from him for eternity. When we struggle to make sense of the world, we can always remember the perfect world to come.

Father God, thank you that you are a God of perfect justice. Thank you, that while being perfectly just, you forgive me through the cross. Help me to trust you during injustice, knowing that one day you will make all things right. Amen.

How does eternity help you to make sense of confusing circumstances in your life?
