2 Chronicles 36:1-4; 2 Kings 23:31-37; 2 Chronicles 36:5; Jeremiah 22:1-23, 26:1-24; 2 Kings 24:1-4; Jeremiah 25:1-14

In a courtroom, evidence is critical to prove the guilt or innocence of the person on trial. Similarly, God desires that we would have evidence in front of a watching world to show we are his children. Jeremiah 22:15-16 speaks of Josiah and says, "‘He did what was right and just, so all went well with him. He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?’ declares the Lord." The evidence for Josiah’s relationship with God was his relationships with others and the fact that he pursued righteousness and justice. Similarly, in the New Testament we are told one of the major pieces of evidence of being God's children is that of love (John 13:35). As the old hymn says, “And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love, they shall know we are Christian’s by our love.”

As Christ’s disciples we should have a distinctive love for all people. We should have concern for our neighbors and the needy, for the rich and our relatives, and for Americans and Afghans. We should be people who are outwardly focused and seeking to serve those whom God places in our path. If we love, and live righteously and justly, we will show the world the evidence we are Christ’s.

Father God, help me to reveal you to the world through what I say and especially through the way I live. Amen.

If you stood before a jury who was trying to convict you as a Christian, would they have substantial evidence of your faith?
