2 Samuel 22:1-51; Psalm 18

What is the ultimate foundation of your life? What is the object upon which your life is built; where, if everything else was stripped away, could you still say it is well with my soul? In many of David's psalms he uses the imagery of God being his rock, and then five times in 2 Samuel 22 David announces that God is his rock, the ultimate foundation upon which his life is built. Jesus echoes a similar theme at the end of the Sermon on the Mount. He proclaims that someone who builds their house on sand will see it come crashing down, while the one who builds their life upon the rock will see it remain.

Two houses may look similar, but when the troubles of life come against them, their end results will be catastrophically dissimilar, depending on their foundation. It is critical for us to ensure that God is the foundation upon which everything in our lives is built. He is the only sure foundation and the only solid rock upon which we can build our lives.

Father God, may you be the foundation of my life. When everything else fades away, you will remain. Help me to do everything for you and with your Spirit's power. Amen.

What in your life reveals that God is your foundation (or that something else is)?
