Hosea 4:1-5:15; 2 John 1:1-13; Psalm 125:1-5; Proverbs 29:9-11

All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. This truth that all of humanity is sinful spares no one. Whether rich or poor, young or old, regardless of ethnicity or country of origin, every single person is sinful and in need of God’s grace.

As God continues to speak to the sinfulness of the Israelites in Hosea, he confronts everyone. He speaks to the idolatry of “you who live in the land” and prophets and priests. Regardless of the perceived religious position of the people, they have gone astray. Someone with the title pastor can be as equally idolatrous as a person with the title prostitute. What every person needs is to turn to Jesus to find the grace, salvation, and forgiveness that is only available in him. But how quick all people are to look elsewhere.

John describes the world as filled with deceivers. People who knew the truth of Jesus but rejected it for false teaching. We need to have our eyes open to the reality of deception and even more to the truth of Christ. We are to be like those the psalmist describes in Psalm 125:1, “those who trust in the Lord.” No matter what the world around us chooses, we need to choose Christ and live for him.

Father God, help me to worship you alone. Help me to never give myself to anything but you. Amen.

Question: What are you tempted to elevate to the position that only God should have in your life?
