Romans 10:14-11:12
How do you feel about sharing Christ with others? Does this excite you or leave you petrified? Are you already starting to get sweaty palms and butterflies in our stomach? Regardless of how we feel, Christ has called us all to be participants in this work. There are no spectators when it comes to the work of evangelism.
God’s plan for people coming to faith in him is regular, ordinary people sharing Christ with others. There is no back-up plan, no alternative, there is simply us. Notice the progression in verses 14-15. No one can call on God if they do not first place their faith in him, and no one can trust in Christ without hearing the gospel. They cannot hear the gospel unless someone preaches to them, and no one will preach unless they have been sent. God’s solution to people needing to place their faith in him is to send people out to preach the gospel, namely you. You are the means which God has chosen to save the world. So, go! Realize that you are sent today to go out and preach the gospel so that people might hear, believe, and call out to God. They might not respond as chapter 11 describes, but our responsibility is not to somehow save people (that is God’s job). Our responsibility is to share the gospel message. To do this work helps us to live in light of our ultimate mission of being disciples who make disciples.
Father God, help me to live for the mission you have given to me. Help me to get over my fears and insecurities so I can more effectively share you. Amen.
