2 Timothy 4:19-22; Hebrews 1:1-4:13

Jesus is greater than everything. Playing a comparison game, Jesus is shown to be superior to angels and Moses. These may seem like strange things to compare to Jesus, but they are some of the central figures in the Old Covenant. For people wrestling to give up their old ways for the new, they had to understand how much greater Jesus is. Yet to embrace the greatness of Jesus is not just to know about it but to respond to it. Multiple times in Hebrews there are warning passages meant to make us pause and consider whether our life reflects the greatness of Jesus. The first of these passages tells us to pay the most careful attention to Jesus so we will not drift away.

Jesus is our anchor and, without being connected to him, we will inevitably fall away into aimlessness, meaninglessness, and pettiness. Therefore, let us respond to the greatness of Jesus in every part of our lives. Make him the center of our lives, keep our eyes on him, and our minds attentive to his truths.

Father God, thank you for your Son. May I live for him and his greatness today. Amen.

How can you remember Jesus’ greatness today?
