December 15

1 Timothy 6:11-21; Titus 1:1-3:15; 2 Timothy 1:1-18

I hate running, while my wife loves it. I find every step to be arduous, while my wife finds it to be an escape and place of relaxation. According to 1 Timothy and Titus, we are all runners. No, we may not be on a track team, but we are all running towards something. In 1 Timothy 6:11, Paul tells Timothy to "flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness." Similarly, Paul tells Titus in 2:11 to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age." We are either running after the things of this world or the things of God. Our lives are running toward something, the question is what.

Someone who is a runner, like my wife, always finds time to run. They may have to wake up at 4 AM or run when they do not necessarily feel like it, but they make time. In the same way, if we are running after God, we will make time for him and shape our lives around his priorities. Ask yourself today, toward what are you running? Then choose to run from the things of the world and to the things of God.

Father God, help me to run hard after you. Help me to prioritize and follow you. Amen.

What are you chasing? Is this what God would want you to pursue?
