Acts 28:1-31; Ephesians 1:1-2:22

Ephesians is a surprising letter, because, though it is written by Paul from prison, it is filled with recounting the good things which God has done on behalf of his people. Rather than focusing on the hardship of imprisonment, it recounts the grandeur of God's grace. Paul’s list of God's blessings includes: "every spiritual blessing in Christ," (Ephesians 1:3) being chosen by God, predestined to be God's children, redemption, being included in Christ, receiving an inheritance, the Holy Spirit and the power he brings, being made alive, salvation, being able to come near to Jesus, and God forming one body out of diverse people.

I am sure as Paul was writing this letter it brought encouragement in his circumstances. The beauty of God overshadowed the horrors he was experiencing, and the light of God eclipsed the darkness around him. God's work is always greater, more beautiful, and more amazing than anything this world can throw at us, so let us focus on what God has done and is doing. No matter our situation, God's grace, presence, and beautiful work is there.

Father God, thank you for all the good things you have done and are doing in my life. Help me to praise you and not become discouraged by the things of this world. Amen.

Which of God's blessings in Ephesians do you want to remember today?
