Acts 27:1-44

Many people love following travel blogs. They love to read about others traveling across the globe and seeing exotic locales. Acts 27 is one of the original travel diaries, but rather than tweets about misplaced luggage or a delayed flight, we have a shipwreck. Paul is on a boat with 276 people whose doom seems certain. They ignored God’s warning that they were supposed to stay at Fair Havens and reaped the consequences of their disobedience. Death seemed certain, but then, God spoke reassuring words through Paul. "God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you" (vs. 24). What transformed their anticipation from death to life was a promise from God.

We almost certainly will not receive a promise about clear travels through life, but we have received a myriad of promises from God that should enable us to live without fear. We can walk in confidence knowing God will never leave us, he is working all things for good, our sins have been forgiven, etc. Hearing the promises of God should enable us to walk with a confident hope knowing God is at work.

Father God, thank you for your promises. Thank you that you are always faithful to me. Help me to trust in your words over my circumstances, and help me rest in you. Amen.

How can you allow God’s promises to bring peace and reassurance?
