2 Corinthians 2:5-6:13

Having a different perspective can drastically change our experience. If we go into a day thinking that it will be terrible, then it probably will be. On the other hand, if we recognize the difficulty and still choose joy, then we can walk in it. Paul gives us the perspective we need in 2 Corinthians. He says, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

This perspective allows us to look beyond present terrible circumstances to see the “eternal glory” that lies behind it. With this perspective, we don’t have to fixate on the sorrows of life but instead can have joy and peace that transcends the moment. With this perspective, no matter what life throws at us we never have to “lose heart.” No matter how hard life gets we never need to despair because we have the hope of Christ. So, we can choose today to embrace God’s perspective that better things are coming through Jesus and can rejoice in that today.

Father God, thank you for the perspective you give me. Help me to see your glory and the hope of eternity rather than fixating on the troubles of today. Amen.

How does your perspective about life and difficulty need to change?
