Acts 6:1-8:1

We are called to be disciples who make disciples. This means we are called to both communicate the gospel and live it. This dual task of proclamation and lifestyle is seen in Acts 6 where some people focused on distributing food, while others focused on teaching. The calling to meet both physical and spiritual needs has always been part of the work of the church. Then in Stephen's life, we see evidence of both things. Stephen performed "wonders and signs among the people" (Acts 6:8) while also sharing the message of Jesus. He met needs and pointed people to the ultimate answer to their needs, which is Jesus.

Each of us may feel more comfortable as a quiet follower of Jesus or as someone who is verbally sharing Jesus everywhere we go. However, since we are called to be disciples who make disciples, we need to both live like Jesus and verbally share him. Following Jesus cost Stephen his life, but no matter the consequences, the only life that is truly lived well is one conformed to Jesus.

Father God, help me to live in obedience to you and share you with others. Give me courage and love to share you with those who are far from you today. Amen.

What is one step you can take to more effectively live like Christ or share him with others today?
