One of the greatest pieces of evidence for the resurrection is the number of appearances Jesus made. He did not just appear to one person at one time but an assortment of people with very different faith positions, over a lengthy period. Yesterday we saw his appearance to Mary Magdalene and today see his appearance to numerous others. He appeared on the road to Emmaus, a gathering of the disciples without Thomas, then a second gathering of the disciples with Thomas, and other appearances to the disciples including one by the Sea of Galilee. These are only the resurrection appearances mentioned in the Gospels and do not include those described in 1 Corinthians 15 and other places. The diversity of these appearances makes the evidence staggering.

Chuck Colson talked about how twelve people could not keep Watergate a secret and is therefore certain that the hundreds of people who were evidence for Jesus’ resurrection would not be able to keep silent if it did not happen. We have great, solid reason to believe the central claim of Christianity─Jesus died and rose from the dead.

Father God, thank you that I can have confidence in the claim that Jesus rose from the dead. Thank you that I do not just know it from the Scriptures, but also from how you have transformed my life. Amen.

What other evidence, besides the resurrection appearances, would you share with someone who does not believe Jesus rose from the dead?
